maybe plaid isn't a bad color?

Image
I will admit it when I am wrong, and I am one to give things a second chance.  Third chance at times, but remember my last bad experience with plaid??  if not then go here  .  I am beginning to think my luck with anything plaid is like the crafter's version of a black thumb.  I got a couple of bottles of mod podge,  One of the Sparkle, and one of the Glitter.  I was all excited to get to test them out and not have to worry with the house looking like a glitter factory exploded everywhere.  Well I set them aside for a couple of months and when I open one to try it out with a wire idea, it was like I opened a tub of cottage cheese.  The water had separated and I was left with this blob of stuff in the middle.   I took a plastic knife and stirred it around thinking maybe I could mix it back up but no luck.  Wellllll crap...  So I open the other one, and same stuff.  I was seriously like wh...

sushi anyone?

So the princess has a 4H meeting tonight and the subject of tonight's meeting is Karate.  I figured what the heck, I would do snacks this month and of course as much as I try not to be one of those kind of moms, I sometimes end up being what I try not to be.  Of course my crafty side tends to take over, and suddenly I must go with a themed snack.  I figured since its July, I would try to do a cute cake pop I saw on instagram featured on Michael's.  after a little search I found the blog they came from originally at pint sized baker. simple enough right???  Wrong..... everything worked fine until I went to melt my white chocolate.  I think it was some weird stuff I have left over from Okinawa, and it just didn't work right.  It is definately a pinterest fail......  and no I didn't take any pictures of it.  It was nightmarish. So onto my other idea.  Candy Sushi. To make it, you need fruit by the foot, Swedish fish...

Plaid Craft Let down

Image
Everyone who knows me knows I love to craft.  That is why I started this blog, so I can share my love of crafting, art and the like, and explore this being the year of crafting dangerously (figuratively, not literally people).  Normally I adore plaid crafts (for the non crafters, they make mod podge and the like).  But I have found something they have made that is so far below their standard its pitiful.  I bought some square frames from my go to normal craft store.  I needed some more, and because I was out at Walmart, I saw the Plaid Crafts ones.  Awesome, now I dont have to travel to downtown asheville to get them.  I bought 7 of them, and they were just a bit cheaper the others.  1st mistake.  I get them home, do some minor sanding (which I never had to do with the other ones), and paint them up, and do the detail work.    I decide to put the little dowel rods in them to take a picture for my crafting albums and my future b...

a little later than expected

I know things have been kinda slow here lately, but with good reason.  The Main Crafter aka Mom had a heart attack on the 1st and things have been so insane since then.  The booted one came down to help with things around here and my craft adventures have been sidetracked just a bit.  But that hasn't stopped my creative side.  All kinds of ideas have been rattling around in my brain and all kinds of artsy fartsy things have been going on.  I have been making jewelry, and art galore.  The creative juices have been running into overdrive and I just have been sidetracked momentarily, but don't worry.  I promise I have not forgotten the blog.  I promise to post more soon.

Family Fun at Home Depot

So we decided to get out and explore since we saw something, both free, and creative after all this snow and mess we have had on and off since January.  The princess is a budding crafter/artist and of course I wanted to let her explore it even more.   Home depot has these free kid workshop sign ups and I decided to let her test out one this past Saturday to make a Trojan horse bank.   They were offering this kit to go along with the release of Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie and how they explore history.  I love piggy banks, and I was excited to see just exactly what it looked like.  I signed up online, and when Saturday was here, we were up early and heading out. This one went from 9 am until 12 noon, and we were there about 8:45 am.  We went in and asked the front desk about where it was going to be held and off we went.  Our local store was having the workshop in the garden center.  BIG MISTAKE!!!  Since I had time, of course I...

valentine's day totes

Image
The crafting bug has hit full force and I am making things like crazy, and I decided to blog about some of my crafts.  Since valentine's day was coming up I wanted to make the princess' teacher a tote.  I had already gotten goodies together to give to the kids and just figured I would do something kind of cute for the teacher, and one of the women from our church that works at the school too. I had started a long list of things all related to valentine's day on my pinterest page, and this page had caught my eye.    of course, it was the nut heart necklace that drew me in, but after looking at the tote, I really liked it and had made one for the princess' K. teacher, and I just wanted to give it a go again.  I figured I would write up what steps I did, and maybe do a review of the products I used too and of course anything I would do different, or tweaks I did in their original directions. I bought a 3 pack of totes from walmart, and r...

just a little introduction

I have always had diaries, either online, or actual written down, like there is a desire somewhere deep in me that just needs to unwind all the thoughts in my mind.  Even if it is just to myself, or to others, I figured I would give a blog a go.  Who am I?  Just a mid-life woman, married to a guy who is currently a soldier in the army, mom to an 8 year old princess.  I love to do all kinds of things from crafting in general, taking pictures, drawing, writing, and reading.  Any given day I could be caught doing all kinds of things.  I love creating jewelry right now using all kinds of things from recycled pieces you would never think would make jewelry, to re-purposing vintage pieces into new designs, and even creating new things from something that has caught my interest. I have been learning how to do different kinds of crafts a lot and I love to try to incorporate what I am learning into things as well.  My blog will be a mix of a little bit of every...
